The sister of a victim of gun violence delivered an emotional message about her sister’s life and the person who murdered her during his sentencing on August 8.
Brenda Rodriguez spoke for nearly an hour about her sister, Dayana Rodriguez, who was shot and killed by police officer Dennis Vargas in 2019.
Vargas was responding to a call about a disturbance at Rodriguez’s home. He said he fired after Rodriguez refused to put down a knife and charged at him with a knife in each hand.
Brenda Rodriguez said she did not believe Vargas’ account of what happened.
